Two studies of enthusiastic charioteer Mike Shirt. (Above) Aproaching Carlies Bend at Cadwell, Bill Bartholomew puts his weight on the rear of the Vincent dual seat, a standard item, shaped as two saddles and packing a sliding tooltray underneath. The Comet is 1954, the chair a Steib and a Brooklands can is of course not factory specification. (Below) In search of lightness for sprint, Mike has shed the silencer for a short open pipe, discarded the standard fuel tank and affixed a Vincent transfer to the oil tank cum box-section frame backbone. The empty sprocket visible (the chain is on the left on a Comet) enables the rear wheel to be inverted for rapid change of ratio. The sprocket bolts to the brake drum rim.
